Why Competitive Team Debate?
Why Competitive Team Debate?
Research demonstrates that the preparation and delivery of competitive debate arguments provide students with the opportunity to think critically, develop research and communication skills, solve problems creatively, and increase self-confidence. Because competitive debate requires self-directed learning and includes opportunities for competitive success, it motivates students who have never before felt the thrill of being responsible and rewarded for their own learning.
Competing in teams of two facilitates collaborative learning as students work through the complexities of the task together, comparing and critiquing different perspectives and strategies and building on each other’s proposed arguments.
