The Center for Ethics & Social Responsibility coordinates background screenings for students engaged in service learning at The University of Alabama. Schools and some other community partners require students to pass a background screening before volunteering.
Background screenings must be performed before a student begins volunteering and approved results remain valid for the duration of the student’s enrollment as long as he/she does not have a gap in service greater than 12 months. If a student has a background screening on file with our office or another campus office that conducted a screening for the same disqualifying crimes (and can give us a copy), he or she will not need another screening.
